About the competition

The GAIA 20:30 Biodiversity Lesson Plan Competition invites Eco-Schools, LEAF and YRE teachers to develop lesson plans to promote active learning around the topic biodiversity. It is developed to encourage teachers to educate their students about the environment they live in and how to protect it. Coherent lesson plans will be included in FEE’s lesson plan database and will be widely disseminated in the global network!

Each participating teacher is encouraged to submit a minimum of one (1) and up to three (3) lesson plans on the topic of biodiversity. Lesson plans should:

  • be genuine and tested in class;

  • be written in/translated into English;

  • state the age range for students and/or the class grade;

  • state the resources used (books, internet, tools);

  • pictures and other visuals are welcome.

Teachers are invited to submit lesson plans within a biodiversity project with a focus on:

  • Preserving existing and creating new forests or natural areas, e.g. school gardens, parks, green neighbourhoods, etc.;

  • Promoting sustainable management of the coastal zone;

  • Combatting pollinator and insect loss;

  • Raising awareness of and supporting actions to remove invasive alien species.
